Location: 54 Merton High Street, South Wimbledon, London SW19 1DH
We are writing to formally raise serious concerns regarding the governance, financial management, operational standards, and overall integrity of DARUL AMAAN MASJID, a registered charity (Charity Number: 27557), located in Colliers Wood, Southwest London. Based on ongoing and well-documented issues, we believe the charity is failing to meet its legal obligations under charity law and is acting contrary to the public interest. We respectfully request that the Charity Commission initiate a comprehensive investigation into the organization’s leadership, financial practices, trustee conduct, and adherence to public safety regulations.
This is not a personal attack — it’s a public duty.

- Financial Irregularities and Missing Transparency
The charity has failed to publish or provide financial statements for over fourteen years, despite community requests. There are repeated concerns over inappropriate use of public donations on construction and operational costs without any accountability or justification.
- Trustee Appointments Lacking Legitimacy
Trustees are appointed and removed without notice, due process, or transparency. New trustees were introduced in January 2025 without consultation or disclosure, and there is no evidence of trustee qualifications, voting, or meeting minutes to support these changes.
- Negligent Construction Oversight
Ongoing construction presents a clear risk to public safety. Rotten structural beams and improper use of fasteners have created serious hazards. Work has continued without obtaining building regulation approval, in direct violation of safety laws for public religious buildings.
- Improper Use of Charitable Assets
Properties owned by the masjid are being leased at significantly reduced rents (up to 40%), with no clarity on how tenants are selected. Plans to sell properties acquired through Qard Hasan (interest-free loans) have been initiated without transparency or legal consultation, costing the charity financially.
- Exclusion of Donors and Lack of Engagement
Donors contributing via direct debit were not informed when the masjid changed its bank account — a serious breach of trust and transparency. For years, there have been no public meetings, financial updates, or community engagement, leaving the local community completely uninformed.
- Allegations of Threatening and Aggressive Conduct
One former trustee was reportedly threatened in his home by individuals linked to current trustees. The matter was serious enough to be reported to the Metropolitan Police (CAD File submitted). The trustee sadly passed away shortly after, leaving the community in distress and fear.
- Community Alienation and Loss of Trust
Mismanagement has led to a noticeable decline in community participation, mosque attendance, and donor contributions. The institution’s reputation as a trusted religious and social hub is deteriorating due to unsafe conditions, internal conflicts, and unchecked decision-making.
- Unskilled and Understaffed Operations
The charity appears to be operated by unqualified and inexperienced individuals, with no evidence of proper training, professional expertise, or staff accountability. Operational duties, including financial administration and construction oversight, are managed by individuals lacking relevant qualifications, resulting in poor service delivery and heightened risk.
Request for Investigation and Immediate Intervention
In light of the above, I respectfully request the Charity Commission to:
- Conduct a full statutory investigation into the governance, finances, staffing, and safety standards at DARUL AMAAN MASJID.
- Assess possible breaches of charity law, public safety obligations, and misuse of charitable assets.
- Require implementation of urgent reforms, including financial audits, proper trustee selection, transparent staff hiring, and regular community consultation.
